well, fuck

100 ppl across conde nast were laid off today, as well as 100 furloughs. i was lucky enough to be spared (and luck is so often what it comes down to in the end), so i will not be making today’s newsletter About Myself, as is my normal habit. instead, i’m rounding up some resources to help laid-off and furloughed journalists, as well as orgs that support journalists in general. if you have the means to donate, it would be an incredible show of support.

vox media furlough fund: provides support to the over 100 vox media workers furloughed w/o pay for 3 months. deadline is friday to raise 100k!

journalist furlough fund: started by seattle times reporter paige cornwell to benefit journalists affected by COVID-19. (go here if you’re an affected journalist who wants to apply for a portion of the funds)

national geographic emergency fund for journalists: distributes support for writers, photographers, videographers, etc. to locally cover pandemic news

society of professional journalists: the org has created a journalists’ emergency fund providing assistance of up to $500 for journalists affected by COVID-19.

committee to protect journalists: evergreen.
