hello pals! i started this substack in the depth of quarantine and now it is 3 (???) years later and i’m writing this dispatch from jazmine and gabe’s couch in hudson, surrounded by bf and friends and dogs and precariously balanced cups of coffee. i’m resurrecting this bad boy not bc i have illustrious plans for it, but my friend
’s substack about her purchases (good and bad) is such a favorite of mine. i literally read it aloud to rax at bedtime sometimes lol, bc shannon is such a good, fun writer! also, the format seems like a really good way of staying accountable about money while also showing the entire world all the little shirts i buy.it genuinely is a goal of mine to save more—okay, anything—and pay off my credit card debt and keep it paid down so i can make some big-ticket adult purchases this year that are NOT little shirts (moving to LA, potentially egg freezing, you know the vibes), but i’m also in active ED recovery and know that going cold-turkey on buying stupid shit is not necessarily going to work for me while i also try to quit or severely reduce my instances of binge-eating. so i’m going to attempt to wean myself off by tracking everything i buy that isn’t food, rent, transportation, etc. so, without further ado, here are my first two purchases of 2023:
1: miaou recycled polyester tomato t-shirt, $65 (on sale, originally $100 at ssense): do i need this shirt? oh lord no. will it look wildly good w white jeans and red lipstick? absolutely. i’ve been having a lot of fun wearing idiotic fucking clothes the last few years, and if they put me closer in touch with my italianx heritage, all the better.
ganni brown hemp sleeveless shirt ($100, on sale from $295 at ssense): sometimes you come into possession of a clothing item that requires a whole new wardrobe to be built around it, and that is the case w my good american “better than leather” vegan (aka plastic) brown pants. i do not love to support the kardashian industrial complex, but unfortunately these pants go hard as hell and actually fit my size 18-20 ass. i’ve wanted this ganni shirt since i saw it in the austin store earlier this year, and imagining it with my brown pants is frankly more than i can handle (also the detailing is black so maybe i can get away w black boots?) i really, really, really love ganni and appreciate that they are more size-inclusive than many brands of their ilk, although they (and pretty much every other status brand) could still be better. excited to wear this one to queer karaoke :
ok well, that’s all i’ve got for now! i’ll be back soon with more purchases to report, i’m sure. or i won’t! maybe i’m different now! too soon to tell! xoxo gay girl
Wait - what is ssense?!
