hello from the swamp
im back in austin after a month away, which is always great (gus! amalie! barton springs! proper biscuits!) and sad (i miss rax! i miss my nyc friends and fam! im tired and run-down and more at risk of a binge!), and in an effort to slowly acclimate myself to a new year and an unbroken few months in my apartment, i’m breaking some of the old depression-busting heavy hitters out and putting them back in the rotation.
among these heavy hitters is my milk frother, which i was obsessed with in 2019 and still thrills me to this day. i also got beautiful new ceramic strawberry cups from jaz and gabe for christmas, as well as lovely framed photos from rax and mickey and beth, so i’ve had fun sprucing up my place, putting my special beach rose sea salt in the little salt holder my mom got me, etc. a 6:45am spirit flight followed by a long night of covering the golden globes wasn’t the best, but i’m trying to take the sting out of it with the following purchase:
benton snail bee high content essence, $26 with shipping. i left my beloved first aid beauty moisturizer in nyc and had already mentally parted with it because rax likes it so much and is guaranteed to use half of it, so i allowed myself to purchase my first new skincare product of 2023: this “essence” that came recommended by the strategist’s rio viera-newton. i am really, really trying to take consistently good care of my skin, and i look forward to seeing how this bad boy fits into the equation. i’m still using the dregs of my tatcha the dewy moisturizer, and i have weleda on tap for dryness emergencies, but i need something fun to smush into my face stoned at bedtime; rio’s review says this is very thick, but i’m hoping it absorbs easily enough to also wear under makeup.
scalloped ankle socks in cream and yellow, nina z, $43 for two pairs. i can’t find a pic of these beauties online, but i got them at one of my all-time favorite stores in hudson and am excited to wear them with mary janes and (let’s be real) crocs. btw i heard crocs dropped out of sponsoring dragcon due to pressure from right wing extremists, so……does anyone have a suggestion for a new rubber shoe that costs $40?
other things i’ve bought: a burrito, groceries, tickets to my friend’s play, painfully expensive ubers to/from airports. i hate spending money on ubers to the airport SO much but getting to newark from my mom’s takes two hours and it turns out i’m almost always lazier than i am cheap. excited to become different this calendar year! cheaper than lazy ‘23! xx
